ABout Zoe
Zoe Markle is a Brussels-based bassist, contemporary classical musician, and improviser with a passion for collaboration across disciplines. She has performed extensively across the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, including recent notable appearances at Casa da Música in Portugal, the Glasgow Cathedral Festival in the UK, and New York City’s Time:Spans Festival with Ensemble Dal Niente.
Zoe’s commitment to co-creation and interdisciplinary work has led her to found the contemporary classical and improvisational piano trio Else, If Else, as well as the international multidisciplinary collective Inland Ocean. She recently joined the Extended Music Collective in Gent, Belgium.
Her collaborative projects have been recognized through residencies at the Centre for Arts and Creativity in Banff National Park and the Equivalent Behaviour Space in London.
Zoe holds a Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music from Lawrence University. She is deeply grateful to her teachers, peers, and mentors, particularly James VanDemark and Mark Urness, for their guidance and inspiration.
